How To Write Headlines That Grab Reader’s Attention

In bold letters: What makes a good headline?

A great body without a better headline is worthless.

People make a decision whether to read your post in a split second based on the headline.

People even decide whether to share your post based on the headline. Yes, most people sharing have not even read the post!

There are a handful of things you have to learn in order to run a successful blog or profitable online business because they make everything else work.

How to write a headline that snags readers' attention is one of them.

Your headline is worth more than the post itself. About 5 times as many people read the headline than the post itself. So it makes sense to spend time making a good one.

If you can't come up with a good one in a few minutes, don't sweat. Experts will tell you that creating a good headline can take many tries and half to 3/4 of the time spent on writing the post.

Without a good headline, people are way more more likely to skip over your blog rather than read it. We are all bombarded with opportunities to read and watch. They are inundated with great value, exceptional service, and opportunities that are too good to miss.

I can't tell you how many posts I've written that were legendary in my own mind – without any witnesses to back it up.

Write a headline to temp the reader to reader, like this woman in the photo is tempted to eat.

Write a headline so the reader is struck with the temptation tempted to read more.

You Wrote A Great Post. Now How Do You Get ‘Em To Read It?

Your headline. Your headline is the temptation and the hook.

Learning to write one that converts passers-by to readers is like converting the window shopper to a paying customer.

You can do it. You've just have to learn a few basics, take your time, imagine yourself as the reader – and be willing to learn.

Generally speaking, headlines should follow the 4 U's. They should be:

  • Useful: They should tell the reader what to expect. Respect your reader's time. Clever headlines may get the reader to click once, but it won't be enough to win them over. A useful headline makes for an informed, respected reader. Be sure your headline is congruent with the copy of your post. Find Your Purpose In 3 Easy Steps. How To Make A Landing Page That Converts.
  • Ultra-specific: The title: How To Get Reader's To Read Your Blog could work for this post, but it is not specific enough. Remember, in Attraction Marketing, you are looking for people who are looking for exactly what you're offering. There are 7 billion people in the world. Don't be afraid of being specific and eliminating a portion of the population by doing so. It is better to be passed over by people who know they are not interested in your specific service than glossed over by people who don't understand because you're too vague. How To Write A Headline That Make Reader's Pay Attention. Write Winning Headlines Every Time. Those are more specific headlines.
  • Unique: Being useful, specific, and unique is a target worth aiming for. This is one I like:  Eminem Terrified As Daughter Begins Dating Man Raised On His Music. It is good to be unique. It is not good to be so unique that you are cryptic. It isn't good to be so clever or mysterious that your reader feels confused or, worse, duped. Remember, respect your reader's time.
  • Urgency: This is valuable. Scarcity does compel readers to act. I used one not too long ago: Warning! Can Your Website Be Hacked? However, it plays on fear. Use it sparingly, with congruence, and authenticity. My own website had been hacked, and I felt compelled to share tips I'd learned with other business owners. These headlines should be used in moderation, or you run the risk of being disregarded much like the boy who called wolf.

Types of Headlines That Get Attention
